DRESSED as lords, ladies and peasants, pupils at a Newport primary took part in a medieval banquet and games.

From feasting on home-made broth and bread rolls, to trying their hand at archery and dancing, pupils at Somerton Primary School were spoilt for choice.

The Key Stage two pupils, took part in the activities as part of a history topic on castles and medieval times.

They also held a catapulting competition and played a medieval horseshoe game.

School head, Fiona Rutledge said: "It was an absolutely fabulous."

"The staff and children dressed in medieval wear and decorated the hall with bunting for the banquet."

"The main focus of the afternoon was on numeracy and literacy skills so the children made their own broth and rolls and had to weigh all the ingredients and calculate how long it took to cook."

"They wrote their own speeches for the banquet and made their own shields.

"Fun was had by all and I can't thank my dedicated staff enough for preparing it all."
