A RISING Newport star is on the verge of making West End dreams reality with a role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Rob Wilshaw, 27, of St Julian’s, will be starring as Asher and Joseph in the production at Wales Millenium Centre, Cardiff, running from August 13 to 17.

The former St Julian’s Comprehensive School pupil, who went on to study musical theatre at Guildford School of Acting, landed the role of the understudy and alternative Joseph to 'H' from Steps, after appearing in productions such as Eddie in Blood Brothers, and Aladdin in the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford.

“I am so excited for my performance in Joseph,” Mr Wilshaw said.

“It will be my first show at the Wales Millenium Centre and being from Wales it is a big deal to perform in such a massive theatre in Cardiff.

“Since it was built I have seen so many shows there so it is so good to be on the stage myself."

The show will be the second time he has performed in the musical, playing Joseph in Dubai in April.

“Joseph is special to me as it was the first musical that I ever heard, so I’m so excited for all my family coming on Friday to see me perform.”

Mr Wilshaw whose favourite Joseph song is ‘Close Every Door’ has enjoyed working with the Steps star.

“It’s great working with ‘H’, I was a bit of a Steps fan back in the day, so it was really weird to meet him,” Mr Wilshaw added.

“But he is really lovely to work with and a good friend.

“It is great being able to get up every day and do something that you love to do.

“If you enjoy what you do you never feel like you do a days work in your life.”

Joseph and the AmazingTechnicolour Dreamcoat will be at Wales Millennium Centre from 13-17 August 2013.
