A MAN previously convicted of robbery who harassed a woman on Facebook and at work has been returned to jail.

Adam Parry, of Allt yr Yn View, Newport, was out on licence for robbery when he harassed Rhiannon Steed, Newport Crown Court heard yesterday.

Parry had sent Ms Steed a number of messages, according to the Crown Prosecution Service. He had pleaded guilty to harrassment three weeks earlier.

Prosecutor John Probert told the court room that the defendant was infatuated with Ms Steed, who Parry knew from school but “never had a full conservation” with.

Mr Probert said there was an incident between the two a few years ago when Parry had pushed her over in a pub.

Earlier this year she received messages from him on Facebook. One said: ”Speak to me and I will make it worth your while... You look lovely in your photo. I didn't say I would strangle you. LOL, kiss.”

Another message, send at the end of May, said: “I know I have been a ******** to you. You haven't exactly been an angel either.” The matter was reported to police.

However on June 7 Parry attended an estate agents where Ms Steed worked in Cwmbran town centre, and asked to see her while she was out on a lunchbreak. Parry was there when she returned - a colleague of Ms Steed's asked him to leave, which he did.

Parry was interviewed by police prior to the incident in Cwmbran, and initially claimed there had been a relationship with Ms Steed, which there hadn't, and that someone had hacked into his account.

Police spoke to Parry again after the incident at the estate agent when he admitted sending the messages and that he shouldn’t have gone to her workplace, the court heard.

Mr Probert said that during 2005 Parry was convicted of robbery and given an indeterminate sentence. Defence barrister Eugene Egan said told the court Parry had been recalled on licence and asked for as a short a sentence as possible.

Recorder Robert Britton, sentencing, passed a further sentence of one month in prison but said Parry was “going to be in custody for some time”.

He also imposed a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting or harassing Ms Steed directly or indirectly.
