A PONTYPOOL man has published his 15th book on local history and a book of his personal poems.

Brian Foster, 73, who has lived in Abersychan all his life has written his 15th book titled Items From Old Newspapers- Eastern Valley Panorama 1830-1879.

Mr Foster began writing books after developing a keen interest in the history of the Eastern Valley and its ironworks and coalmine industry.

He is now the secretary of Abersychan and Garndiffaith History Group.

Mr Foster explained that he read fascinating stories while looking through old achieves of newspapers and he decided to gather them together in a book.

Newspapers used in the book are The Monmouthshire Merlin, The Star of Gwent, and The Pontypool Free Press.

Published at the same time is Through a Glass, Darkly- A Small Book of Poetry and Prose.

Mr Foster said: “This book is special to me as it’s a one off and took me over 30 years to complete.

“Some of the writing is quite personal to me and I was undecided for a while if I should publish it.”

Both of the books are available in local shops, as well as Pontypool and Blaenavon museums and priced at £4 each.
