A CALDICOT double killer who is on the run from police is one of 13 fugitives believed to be hiding out in Spain.

The Argus previously reported how Keith Turner, 60, was released on life licence in 1993 after being jailed for life in 1975 for killing his sister Karen and mother Georgina in Cramlington, Northumbria, in 1973.

But in September 2000, he failed to appear at Reading Crown Court after being charged by Thames Valley Police with an alleged offence of attempting to obtain property by deception by falsely issuing four cheques totalling £11,781.46.

A warrant was issued by the court for his arrest. The Home Office revoked his licence and he was recalled to prison but he has not been seen since.

Now crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers and the newly formed National Crime Agency are working closely with the foreign and commonwealth office in Madrid and with British and Spanish law enforcement agencies to find Turner and 12 other new wanted individuals on the multi-agency Operation Captura campaign list.

The campaign highlights appeals for information on criminals who have European arrest warrants (EAWs) issued against them.

Information given to Crimestoppers can help find these criminals so that arrests can be carried out by the Spanish police.

Gwent Police, who reviewed the case back in 2010, said they hoped the campaign would help to find Turner.

Head of CID, Detective Chief Superintendent Peter Jones said: “We are pleased that Keith Turner features in this latest campaign and hope this will aid efforts to locate him.

“Our major incident team reviewed this case in 2010 and as part of this visited his former associates and liaised with experts to issue a number of age progression images. Officers have also been to Spain to meet with Spanish authorities to progress enquiries to trace him

“We will not close the file on him until he has been brought to justice.”

Turner moved to the Caldicot area in 1998 after spending a period of time in the Bristol area following his release from prison.

He is described as about 5’7” tall with blue eyes and a northern accent. At the time of disappearance he had balding grey hair, a thin beard and wore glasses.

He has ‘Keith’ tattooed on his right forearm.

At the time of his disappearance he had lost weight due to an alleged illness, but prior to this he was of medium build.

Turner is originally from the Newcastle area but following enquiries it was found he has also frequented, or has contacts, in Birmingham, Reading and Slough, Bristol, Caldicot, Spain, South Africa and France.

Anyone with any information regarding his whereabouts can call Gwent Police on 01633 838111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
