South Wales Argus: MERRY CHRISTMAS!: Prize-winner David McKinney with his family MERRY CHRISTMAS!: Prize-winner David McKinney with his family

A BOOK lover from Cwmbran has received an early Christmas present after winning a prize gift voucher thanks to a Greater Gwent library campaign.

David McKinney won first prize in the Greater Gwent Get Reading, Get Better, Get Libraries scheme.

He was rewarded with a £150 Argos voucher from the initiative, open to all new library users in Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Newport and Monmouthshire.

He joined Torfaen libraries along with his wife, Janne and children, April, Grace, and Eleanor.

Mr McKinney said: “The library is very important to us as a family. The most valuable thing the children can do is read – not just because it’s educational but also because it’s fun.

“It’s also important for us to provide them with access to as many books as possible. The library provides the perfect opportunity for this.”

When I saw the headline, I assumed the prize would be Waterstones vouchers, not Argos...!
