PUPILS at Blaenavon Heritage VC Primary School invited members of the community into the building to answer questions about the town.

Children aged between five and seven-years-old have been working on projects under the topic of ‘community’.

The class of 120 pupils became community explorers and researched Blaenavon and the issues that concerned the community such as keeping the town tidy and tourist activities.

They also designed a role play area and a railway.

A total of 50 members of the Blaenavon community were then invited into the school.

Among them were local business owners such as staff from the Blaenavon Cheese Co, staff from Arthur Jenkins care home and Busy Bees Nursery.

Also invited were Blaenavon Blues players, school governors and members of the police and fire service.

Pupils asked them how they could work together to make Blaenavon a better place for everyone.

Year 2 teacher, Leanne Jones, said: “It was really successful and the pupils were really engaged with the project and enjoyed meeting people. We are looking forward to working again with the community in the future.”
