NANTYGLO and Blaina Town Council recently held its 14th annual Achievement and Recognition in the Community (ARC) Awards.
The ARC Awards recognise individuals and groups who work for the benefit of the local community or those who go over and above the call of duty or friendship to others.
Among the winners was Rita Anstee, district commissioner of scouts – the highest office in the scouts movement.
She has been involved with the scouting movement for more than 25 years.
Under Mrs Anstee’s leadership, the interest in scouting within Blaenau Gwent is increasing and there are currently more than 500 members.
Winchestown Luncheon Club won the Collective Achievement award.
The volunteers of the Luncheon Club provide a valuable service to the community of Nantyglo, providing social occasions, entertainment and home cooked meals for around 40 local residents.
William ‘Glyn’ James was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for many reasons, including volunteering for several organisations and being captain of the Mines Rescue Service.
