MUSICAL theatre students are getting set to put their skates on to perform the roller skating extravaganza ‘Starlight Express’.

However, the budding actors, who study at Coleg Gwent’s Crosskeys Campus won’t be treading the boards in their latest production but skating on them.

The cast is going full steam ahead in dress rehearsals for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s West End hit and they have been perfecting their roller skating skills with the help of Coleg Gwent lecturer and local West End star Zeph Gould.

Starlight Express tells the story of a toy train set that comes to life in a child’s imagination. The fastest and most dynamic musical experience follows underdog Rusty in his quest to become the fastest train in the world, however his rivals Greaseball and Electra have other ideas. Will Rusty win the race and the hand of the first class coach of his dreams Pearl?

The show runs at Blackwood Miner’s Institute at 7pm between 14 -17 May. Tickets are £6.50/ £5 from the box office on 01495 227206.
