A BLACKWOOD man was jailed after he breached a restraining order by showing up at his mother’s house drunk and kicking her door.

Niall McCole, 23, of Pencoed Avenue, arrived at his mother’s house on March 27 this year after drinking heavily, Cardiff Crown Court heard.

Tony Trigg, prosecuting, said: “On Thursday, March 27, Mrs McCole was at home with her other son when she suddenly saw the defendant in the back garden. She immediately began calling the police. The other son went to the back door to try to stop the defendant gaining entry. The defendant began kicking the back door in frustration. .”

The police attended and the defendant made off. The police could see foot prints on the door and found McCole nearby, the court heard.

Mr Trigg said: “When interviewed he didn’t deny the allegations, saying he was too drunk to remember what had happened.”

The restraining order had been breached once previously after being imposed on August 6 last year, the court heard.

McCole was also sentenced for breaching a community order imposed after he left without paying for a £94 pub meal and drinks from the Bumble Bee, Blackwood.

Andrew Taylor, mitigating, said his client was coming to terms with “the devastation he’s caused within his own family.”

On the day of the offence he had had a falling out with a young woman he was seeing, Mr Taylor said.

He did not resist arrest, pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and caused no damage to the house other than the foot prints, he said.

“He wishes now to publicly apologise to those members of his family who have been affected by this boorish and criminal behaviour,” said Mr Taylor.

Judge William Gaskellimposed a six-month prison sentence, made up of two months for breaching the community order and four months for breaching the restraining order. McCole must pay an £80 victim surcharge.
