BLACKWOOD high Street will be transformed into a holidaymakers’ delight when a beach party washes ashore this weekend.
The town centre will be transformed into a seaside resort featuring a promenade-style photo booth, donkey rides and Punch and Judy shows and an urban beach for the annual summer festival.
Other entertainment at the Blackwood Beach Party includes hula hooping, Punch and Judy shows, funfair rides, pottery workshops, face painting and street entertainment.
Younger visitors will be treated to a visit from their favourite costumed TV characters, including Peppa Pig and Spiderman.
More than 40 stalls will line the high street, offering visitors the chance to see the variety of food and crafts on offer.
A spokesman for the council said: “The event promises to be a great day out for the whole family. Blackwood will be transformed into an urban beach for the weekend and there will be plenty of seaside-themed activities on offer, including a promenade style photo booth and a surf simulator.
“We would encourage everyone to come along and support these fantastic events which help promote our town centres.”
Traveline Cymru will be on hand at the beach party raising awareness of the benefits of using public transport this summer.
The event coincides with a new campaign launched by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s town centre management team, encouraging residents and visitors to ‘choose the high street’ and support local retailers.
The initiative will focus on raising awareness of the importance of consumer choice, and encourage people to use their local high street more.
Councillor Ken James, Caerphilly council’s cabinet member for regeneration, planning and sustainable development, said: “This year’s event is particularly important for Blackwood and I would encourage the people of the county borough to come along to a fantastic weekend of family fun and in doing so show their support for the town’s retailers.”
The free festival runs 9am–5pm on June 28 and 10am–4pm on June 29.
