THE cousin of missing Newbridge man Kyle Vaughan is to run a half marathon to raise funds for a organisation which searched tirelessly for him.

Lanie Ball will tackle this year’s Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon with the search for her missing cousin still going on after almost two years.

Mr Vaughan went missing in December 2012 and a murder investigation was launched. Two men remain on police bail after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

His silver Peugeot 306 was found abandoned on the A467 near Risca. It had been in a collision, but it is not known whether he was driving it at the time.

Since then the Severn Area Rescue Association has searched tirelessly for the 24-year-old and his family have tried to say thank you to them in any way they can.

The Cardiff Half Marathon will be another fundraising effort by Kyle’s family and Ball says it’s the least they can do.

And, as well as raising money, Ball is hoping that her family’s continued efforts will encourage someone to come forward with knowledge of Mr Vaughan’s disappearance.

“The Severn Area Rescue Association have been so good to the family in helping to try and find Kyle,” said Ms Ball.

“They have continued to search tirelessly for him and we are so grateful for all their efforts.

“So I really wanted to raise some money to help them in any way that I could so this is my way of doing that and saying thank you.

“It really is the least that I can do because they have done so much and it’s important to give something back no matter how small.

“Kyle is still missing and it’s important to do this because every bit helps and it might mean other families don’t have to go through the same as we have.”

Lloyds Bank is in its fifth year as title sponsor of the event in Wales with the Cardiff Half Marathon along with other community programmes helping bring to life the bank’s continuing commitment to Helping Britain Prosper.

Well over 19,000 people regularly take part in the 10K and half marathon road races in Cardiff and for Ms Ball it is the perfect chance to try and make a difference.

“Kyle’s body has never been found and they are still searching for him so this might help raise awareness as well,” she added.

“I just started running last year so this was a good goal to aim for and a nice way to raise some money.

“I’m up to running ten miles so far so hopefully by the time it comes around I should be fine.

“Someone out there knows what happened to Kyle and so it is really important to raise awareness and hopefully someone will come forward and give us information.”

Lloyds Bank is proud to continue its support of the Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon – Wales’ largest mass participation event. Entries are still available at: www.cardiffhalfmarathon.co.uk
