THE WINNER of the third Newport Rises 'selfie' competition has been announced this week.

Newport Rises, a group aiming to promote the positives of the city, ran the competition for the third time this summer.

Helen Beddow, 42, of Caerleon, submitted a picture of her and her son Evan, two, taken in front of the Newport Transporter Bridge in July.

The ‘proud Newportonian’ was thrilled to have won a £25 curry voucher courtesy of Newport restaurant Popadoms.

“I have grown up with the Transporter Bridge but for many many years but it wasn’t open to go on it,” the communications officer in European Stem Cell Research at Cardiff University said.

“So obviously now it is and my little boy loves it.

“We call it the big bridge.”

Dave Went of the Newport Rises group running the competition said: “It is just a fantastic thing-it is nice to see people from all over Newport take part.

“This is the third time we have run the competition and the next one will be in the run up to Christmas.”

Faisal Rahman, co-owner of Popadoms said the competition was a positive thing for the city and has hopes to take part in the Christmas Newport Selfie feature.

“The idea is to promote Newport and get everyone to send a selfie to put Newport in a positive light,” he said.
