A BLACKWOOD man and his work colleagues pedalled their way to raise £4,500 for a charity supporting his wife, who is living with a rare brain condition.

Geraint Saunders and his colleagues at Blackwood-based medical device company Frontier Medical Group cycled 56 miles from Brecon to Cardiff Bay for The Pituitary Foundation.

Mr Saunders’ wife Amy Saunders, 30, was diagnosed with a pituitary tumour four years ago. He said: “When Amy was diagnosed, The Pituitary Foundation were a constant source of support and helped us enormously.

“The Pituitary Foundation is the only charity in the UK providing support to people affected by rare pituitary gland disorders and very little is known about the charity, which is why I wanted to do something to raise vital funds and awareness for this great charity.

“On the day we had 67 people taking part and we look on course to have raised £4,500 for The Pituitary Foundation when all monies are collected. I would like to thank all of my colleagues for being so supportive, they really have all been amazing.”

The pituitary gland is a a small gland located at the base of the brain that controls other hormone glands in the body. There are estimated to be 80,000 people in the UK affected by a pituitary condition and symptoms include headaches, fatigue, weight gain and vision problems.
