CROMWELL Youth AFC has become the first football club in Newport to sign up for the Poppies4Kits campaign.

Ahead of Remembrance Sunday on November 9, youth teams across the UK have ordered Self Adhesive woven Poppy emblems.

At least 60 per cent of money raised from the emblems goes to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, which supports the Legion’s welfare work for the Armed Forces community.

Darren Little, who coaches Cromwell’s under 13 team, ordered the emblems and hopes Cromwell will be the first of many teams in Newport to sign up to the initiative.

Unlike the permanently printed poppies Premier League footballers wear, Poppies4Kits’ poppies are easily applied to a team’s kit, worn for the match, and then removed afterwards.

The poppy emblems cost £1 each.

The campaign have set themselves a target of £10,000. For more information, visit poppies4kits.co.uk
