A NEWPORT actor and filmmaker who has worked with stars Sir Michael Caine and Angelina Jolie may return to Wales to produce his latest short film.

Matt Hookings, from Langstone, has appeared in Hollywood film Maleficent and will hit the screens as a young Sir Michael in next year’s release Kingsman: The Secret Service.

The 25-year-old described Sir Michael as “a bit of a lad” who was “very professional, very funny and honest to work with”.

Now former Caerleon Comprehensive School pupil Mr Hookings has founded his own London-based production company, Camelot Films.

And he is producing a ten-minute film based on the events of 9/11.

The short, which Mr Hookings is considering filming partly in South Wales in November, explores one man’s psychological journey and his connection with 9/11.

It is set to be very different from previous film treatments, such as United 93, from the USA.

Mr Hookings said: “I have always been really interested in 9/11.

“I started watching YouTube footage of the attacks a couple of years ago, and the project has taken me since then. I wanted do something away from the American version of events and show a different aspect.”

Mr Hookings now lives in London. He said the move from Wales made him more determined to succeed as an actor.

He said: “I knew I would have to put in 100 per cent. There are lots of people who are older than me and I thought that I do not want to be that age and in the position where I have not put my heart and soul into it.”
