A MOTORIST appeared in court today charged with causing the death of a biker this summer.

Kevin Morgan, 60, died at the scene of a crash with a black BMW on the A449 just outside Newport on June 21.

Mr Morgan was riding his white Kawasaki motorcycle at the time.

Vincent Hamlyn, 32, appeared at Newport Crown Court today [December 4] charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Hamlyn, of Granville Terrace, Chepstow, did not enter a plea at the preliminary hearing.

More than 500 people attended the funeral of Mr Morgan in Cwmbran in July.

Hundreds of bikers took part in a ride-out in his memory this summer.

In a tribute he was described as a "gentleman" and “100 per cent biker".

The dad of three lived in Hollybush with his wife Anna for more than 30 years.

Mr Morgan was born in Brynmawr and enjoyed his first job with British Steel in Ebbw Vale.

He met his wife Anna at Tiffany's nightclub, Newport, and the couple got married on October 29, 1983.

He always had an interest in motorbikes and a passion for cycling.

Mr Morgan enjoyed cycling in Normandy to see the D-Day landing beaches and he was especially proud of a climb on his mountain bike in the French Alps.

A plea and case management hearing is to take place on February 12.

Judge Philip Richards granted Hamlyn bail until the February 12 hearing.
