A DONKEY stabbed in a vicious attack has received messages of support from across the world.

Businesses across Torfaen have also been rallying to support Cheeky the donkey, who was victim of the stabbing at Greenmeadow Community Farm.

Kate Holly, commercial manager at Greenmeadow Farm, said that they have received messages from New York, Singapore and even Tasmania for Cheeky, 22, who has lived at the farm since 2006.

She said: “It’s an awful thing that has happened but its heart warming to have had such an outpouring of kind messages.”

The farm is collecting donations which will go towards vet bills, increasing security and improving the stables since the attack, when Cheeky was stabbed 12 times in her stable.

It is thought the weapon used may have been a penknife - she suffered wounds to her stomach, rear and neck.

Local businesses have also been offering their services.

Orbital Facilities Management, who have been monitoring the farm for five years including alarm monitoring and response services, have increased security to include manned patrols of the site for no charge. This has a value of £9,000 per annum.

Days Contract Hire donated carrots, Emma Horrocks, who runs a Forever Living franchise, has offered a supply of aloe vera products to help heal Cheeky’s wounds, and David Llewellyn, who runs Pioneer Herbal, has donated a bottle of T3 Balm, which helps heal wounds quicker.

Weston Security has upgraded the CCTV at the Farm free of charge.

Leader of Torfaen council Bob Wellington said: “Everyone at the farm has been touched by the huge amount of support they have received from residents and the business community and I’d like to thank everyone for their generosity.

“The good news is that Cheeky is recovering well and its business as usual at the farm, with the popular Santa’s Grotto open from 10am-5pm where we will be joined by two reindeer on Saturday.”
