A MAN who breached a restraining order against his ex-partner at least nine times assaulted her for kissing another man, a court heard.

Andrew Phipps-Jarvis, 40, grabbed Samantha Piechowicz by the shoulder when he spotted her during the “kissing session” in Newport, a court heard.

Ms Piechowicz suffered tenderness in the shoulder and had an X-ray but no bone was broken, Newport Magistrates’ Court heard.

Phipps-Jarvis, of Walnut Drive, Caerleon, pleaded guilty to one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in Crown Street on October 19. He had admitted assaulting her and stealing her mobile phone two years previously, a court heard.

Phipps-Jarvis was remanded in custody until city magistrates sentenced him this week for the latest attack. Magistrate Ann-Marie Corbett imposed an eight-week jail sentence, meaning he was immediately released.

The Argus reported in December 2012 how Phipps-Jarvis had breached a restraining order against Ms Piechowicz nine times.

Our newspaper reported at the time how he had received a suspended custodial sentence after pleading guilty to assaulting her and stealing her mobile.

His solicitor, Ian George, said the relationship between his client and Ms Piechowicz had been “poisonous” but he accepted it was now at an end. Ms Corbett imposed a fresh restraining order which will stop the defendant from contacting her for two years.

The order will also prevent him from going to her address for two years.

Mr George acknowledged that a previous restraining order had been breached but indicated his client was prepared to comply with the new one. The court also ordered Phipps-Jarvis to pay an £80 surcharge.
