A TREDEGAR school proved their pupils have the X Factor when they celebrated the end of term with a ‘Xmas Factor performance.’

Pupils at Tredegar Comprehensive School took to the stage for their 15th annual ‘Xmas Factor’ performance last week.

The event which is the most popular on the schools calendar sees pupils audition and rehearse throughout the term and then perform live for the school on the last day of the autumn term.

A spokeswoman for the school said:” The standard of performance was again exceptional this year.

“The confidence shown by the new Year 7 pupils and the quality of performance by pupils of other year groups 'set the bar' at a high level which will be a challenge to pupils next year.”

Each year group was well represented by pupils who performed songs and dances from a variety of acts such as Johnny Cash, Michael Jackson, Adele, One Direction and Beyoncé.

The panel of judges this year comprised of Assistant head teacher Anthony Robins, learning coordinator for Year 7 Emma Cavender-Morris, head boy Jonathan Maddy and head girl Lucy Morris, with the audience making up the fifth judge.

Twenty-four different acts performed before being whittled down to three finalists and a special award was given to audience favourite Callum Morgan of Year 7 for his rendition of Johnny Cash's The General Lee. After all the finalists performed a final time, Year 11 pupil, Gabrielle Davies was declared Xmas Factor champion for 2014 for a performance of John Legend's 'All of me'.
