A COUPLE are appealing for information about the two men who brutally assaulted them in an unprovoked attack on Boxing Day night.

Wesley Walters, his girlfriend Angharad Colwell, both 35 and her sister Natasha Colwell, 26, were walking home through Tredegar town centre after spending the day with family when they were attacked in Commercial Street.

Both Mr Walters and his girlfriend were rushed to hospital after the assault at 11.25 pm which left Angharad with a broken cheek bone and eye injuries and Mr Walters with two cracked teeth and cuts to his lip and forehead, which needed four stitches.

Mr Walters, a recycling loader with Blaenau Gwent Council, said: “We were walking back home through the town when we saw two boys, they were just looking for trouble.

“One of the boys hit me a few times and when I was unconscious, kicked me in the head.

“He hit Angharad in the face and she’s got a broken cheekbone. Angharad’s sister was hit too and she’s fractured her nose.”

Mr Walters said one of the attackers claimed he had sworn at him but Mr Walters said “all I wanted to do was to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.”

Mr Walters added his girlfriend, a former fitness instructor, was “obviously very shaken” after the incident and their New Years Eve plans have now gone “out the window”.

“It hit me more than her because I was meant to defend her,” he added. “I’m 15 stone what if they’d done it to somebody smaller? It would have killed them.”

Appealing for information, Mr Walters added: “I know people don’t want to get involved themselves but what if it was them or what if it was one of their children? Somebody else might not be as lucky as me.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call 101 quoting log 361 26/12/14 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
