South Wales Argus: Woman dies in crash on A4042 Docks Way, Newport

Gwent Police have tonight charged a 22-year-old man with causing the death of Xana Doyle by dangerous driving. The man, from Newport, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, aggravated theft of a motor vehicle, driving without insurance, and driving with excess alcohol. He will appear before magistrates on Monday. A 21-year-old man who was also arrested yesterday has been released without charge.

The 19-year-old woman who died in the crash is named locally as Xana Doyle.

Police say the woman who died was 19.

Officers are appealing for information. They say the collision involved one vehicle, a silver Toyota Avensis.

There were four occupants travelling in the vehicle, police say.  A 19 year old woman from the Newport area was pronounced dead at the scene.  A 15 year old girl from the Newport area was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital with arm injuries.

Two men from Newport, age 21 and 22, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and are currently in police custody.

Anyone with information relating to the collision is asked to call 101 quoting log 59 09/01/15.

Aled Irwin, from Newport, said traffic was gridlock this morning. "I got off the bus and walked here from Sainsbury's in Crindau because the traffic was so bad."

Usk Way remains closed from the junction by Lidl to the roundabout outside the Mini dealership.

Congestion is reported on the southbound stretch to Heidenheim Drive, past Sainsbury to J25a of the M4 and on the northbound stretch of the A48.

Traffic is also heavy on Town Bridge and George Street Bridge.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following a fatal crash in Newport.

The men aged 21 and 22 were held after a woman died at the scene of the accident in Usk Way.

Another woman has been taken to Royal Gwent Hospital in the city with arm injuries.

The road remains shut in both directions.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: “We were called at 7.07am this morning, Friday January 9, to a single vehicle road traffic collision on Usk Way in Newport.

“A female travelling in the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene - a second female occupant has been taken to Royal Gwent Hospital with arm injuries.

“Two men from Newport age 21 and 22 have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

“The A4042 is currently closed in both directions while emergency services at the scene.”

A WOMAN has died following a serious crash in Newport this morning.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on the A4042 in Usk Way, a spokeswoman for the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust told the Argus.

Two people are injured after their car overturned.

Crews from Duffryn and Malpas attended at 7.07am.

THE A4042 Usk Way is closed and heavier than usual traffic reported this morning.

The incident happened between the Granville Street junction and Octopus Bridge Roundabout.

A diversion is in operation with traffic heading down Granville Street onto George Street.

Traffic can use Lower Dock Street to head back to the Octopus Bridge Roundabout.

Police are directing traffic.
