A Gwent Police spokesman said: “The individual was reported as being in possession of an offensive weapon. Enquiries are ongoing to establish what the weapon was, and to recover the item.”

UPDATE: 10.47am

GWENT Police confirmed that armed police were deployed this morning and a man arrested after the incident in Pontymister.

The 57-year-old is being held on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon.

A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said they were called to an address at Ty Isaf Park Avenue at around 6.10am to reports of a man acting in a threatening manner.

No one was injured and the man remains in police custody assisting officers with their enquiries.

UPDATE: 9.46am

ARMED police were on a Gwent street this morning.

Reports say the armed officers, an unmarked vehicle, a police van and about four other police vehicles were on Ty Isaf Park Avenue in Pontymister between 7-8.00am this morning.
