A NEWPORT butchers is making its very own haggis in time for one of Scotland’s most well-loved annual traditions this weekend.
AD Turner and Sons, located at Newport Market in the city centre, is offering some haggis to customers ahead of Burns Night.
The traditional Scottish dish is a savoury pudding made from lamb (including the heart, liver and lungs), beef, beef stock, onion, black pepper, and nutmeg.
It is considered the national dish of Scotland, partly as a result of Robert Burns’ poem Address to a Haggis of 1787.
Burns Night is annually celebrated in Scotland on or around January 25 and commemorates the life of the poet, who was born on January 25, 1759.
The day also celebrates Burns’ contribution to Scottish culture.
His best known work is “Auld Lang Syne”, which has since been adopted as a folk song around the world.
