MORE people across Gwent stated their religion was Jedi Knight than said they were either Buddist, Hindu, Jewish, or Sikh, statistics show.

Details collected in the 2011 census showed that 1,381 people across Gwent marked their religion as Jedi Knight.

The religion was inspired by the film Star Wars with worshippers believing in the existence of the Force, which binds the universe together, and aim to keep the peace.

This was more than Gwent people selecting Hindu, with 1,334 people marking this as their religion, followed by 1,241 people marking Buddhist, 435 people marking Sikh and 257 marking they are Jewish.

Caerphilly had the biggest congregation of Jedi Knights with 393 marking the census as their religion, closely followed by Newport with 376 followers.

248 people say they follow the religion in Monmouthshire, while there are 216 followers in Torfaen and 148 followers in Blaenau Gwent.

Torfaen and Newport both saw eight people in the counties mark Satanism as their religion- making up 0.009% of the Torfaen population.

Two people in Monmouthshire and Caerphilly marked Satanism as their faith, while no one marked it in Blaenau Gwent.

In Monmouthshire, 18 people said that they follow heavy metal as their religion along with 17 people in Torfaen and 14 people in Newport.

43 people in Monmouthshire said they were humanist- choosing to live ethical lives on the basis of reason and humanity- along with 34 people in Caerphilly.

Christianity was the most selected religion across Gwent with 315,905 people in Gwent selecting it as their religion in the 2011 census, and 7,906 people marking their religion as Muslim.

Across Gwent 271 people marked that they were agnostic- someone who neither believes nor disbelieves in the existence of God- and 232 people said they were atheist- do not believe that God exists.
