South Wales Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed the fire was "accidental" and was contained in a 11,000-volt metal shredding machine at Sims Metal.
Group manager Carl Evans said: "From the investigation carried out, it was found the fire started accidentally in the shredder.
"The fire crews worked hard to contain the fire along with the Sims engineers who gave technical advice on how to reach parts of the machiney.
"Due to the combined efforts, the fire was quickly brought under control."
Firefighters left the scene at 5pm yesterday.

AROUND 30 firefighters are tackling a blaze at a scrap metal factory at Alexandra Docks in Newport.
Crews were called to the north side of the area at 1.49pm today after reports of a fire involving mill conveying machinery and rubber waste material.
Evacuation has taken place.
Public Health Wales have been informed but ambulance has not yet been required, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said.
The firefighters were called from Duffryn, Maindee, Malpas, Barry, Cwmbran, Roath, and Aberbargoed stations.

FIREFIGHTERS are tackling a blaze at a factory in Alexandra Docks, Newport.
People are advised to avoid the area if possible.
