ENTRIES for this year’s Great Gwent Poppy Run are now open with organisers unveiling a new location and brand new theme for the annual race.

The Royal British Legion’s Gwent branch has moved the fundraiser from the familiar surroundings of Cwmcarn Forest Drive to Usk.

Members launched this year’s new event at the Tank School on Little Trostrey Farm, ahead of the October 25 run.

The course, named Military Madness, is a shorter length, obstacle course recognising the great battles and names in Welsh history.

Entrants will crawl under the wire defences and run for the cover of Mametz woods, before continuing through the smoke, scaling the muddy banks to a sliding descent into the water obstacle of Rorkes Drift.

Having cleared the woods and river, it’s into the challenge of the mine field exiting to a no cover run for freedom, home and the finish line.

All who complete the course will get a free specially-designed and unique technical t-shirt plus goodie bag.

Entry fee is £25 with all proceeds going towards the Poppy Appeal. Minimum entry age is 12 years, but the race is limited to 200 places.
