A CHEPSTOW cancer survivor is backing a charity walk in the town next month.

Lorraine Owen was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in September 2013 and is urging people to get involved with the Chepstow March in March for Cancer Research UK.

She said: “The progress in cancer treatment has been massive in the last few years and research is the reason I am alive.

“After a short illness I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Like a lot of women I was sadly unaware of the major symptoms of ovarian cancer and other health conditions had made the diagnosis difficult.

"Two close friends have lost family members to cancer recently and sadly the disease touches so many people directly and indirectly. For Cancer Research UK to continue its work the charity needs your support

"If communities get behind this charity to walk and raise the money, we can make a real difference.”

And Cancer Research UK’s local fundraising manager Maria Parker said: “Every moment counts in the fight against cancer, and every step we make relies on the generosity of the public so I encourage everyone to step up to the challenge and help people like Lorraine and step out on March 29.”

The walk will be held on March 29 at 10am, starting from Offa’s Mead Academy in Sedbury. There are two choices walkers can take; either a 4km course or 8km route along Offa’s Dyke. It costs £3 to take part.
