SPONSORS are needed to help run a charity night for Turner Syndrome this summer.

The event aims to raise funds and awareness for the syndrome – a rare condition which means children are only born with one X chromosome affecting their ability to grow.

The charity night will be held at Rodney Parade on May 15 at 7.30pm and will feature an auction, disco and raffle.

Sponsors are needed to help reduce the ticket price in the hope that around 150 people will attend and raise more than £750 for the condition.

The event is being organised by the family of Newport tot Kara-Jay Horton, of Beechwood, who was born with Turner Syndrome, a condition which affects just one in every 2,000 baby girls. Kara-Jay was diagnosed with the condition after her parents, full-time mum Kelly and dad Clinton Horton, an Elvis tribute artist, became concerned that she wasn’t developing at a normal rate. Following a trip to the doctor they discovered that Kara-Jay had the genetic condition which only affects females.

It is caused by an abnormal chromosome; instead of having an XX chromosome, Kara-Jay has only one X chromosome, leading to problems which include reduced and delayed growth.
