KATH SKELLON talks to Abergavenny hot air balloonist and charity worker, Christian Brown,OBE, about some of the pictures which mean the most in his life.

Picture One

Fly fishing how I relax. I have been incredibly lucky to work all around the world and I always chuck in a Hardy Smuggler rod whenever I can and as a result I have fished everywhere from Burma to Argentina and loads in between however nothing beats the river Usk without doubt the best place to fish in the world. In 1996 I also got Nick Fisher of CH4 screaming reels to catch a fish from my balloon another unlikely record

Picture Two

This is me in Antarctica at Port Lochroy in Antarctica during the filming of BBC 'the Penguin Post Office'. It is the most amazing place in the world. I'm a Welshman first and foremost so I smuggled a Welsh Flag down with me to fly on St David's day and got an official reprimand from the foreign office for doing so when they saw the pictures in the sunday papers. The United Kingdom Antarctic Heritage Trust, who I work for, takes three people every year to work at the Penguin Post Office I urge everyone to have a go no special skills required just a love of Antarctica.

Picture Three

My wife Monica a GP in Abergavenny who lets me travel the world and my son Gabriel who makes the whole thing worthwhile (he is a bit bigger now and at Monmouth). I proposed on the top of White Castle within a month of our first date and we are still married…

Picture Four

I achieved some notoriety during the first ever flight of a glass bottom basket over Bath in 2010. It was a fairly scary experience for all on board. I was lucky to be employed in the 90's by Richard Branson at the start of his ballooning career and I stayed with Virgin for ten years going all round the globe organising all aspects of his stunts from water-skiing behind an airship on Baywatch to delivering a sky diving Gotcha oscar - never a dull moment as you can see from this picture.

Picture Five

Two years ago I was asked by my Archbishop George Stack if I would project manage as a volunteer the conversion of the redundant Ebenezer Chapel in Charles St Cardiff into a community centre. So with support from the local groups, like:Cardiff University, local business and Charities such as RNIB Cymru I was able to put together a successful Heritage Lottery Bid and at the beginning of the year we were awarded £1.2 million and we are on track to open with a concert for the charity 'Music in Hospitals' staring patron Rebecca Evans in March 2016. The project now seems to consume my every waking minute when not ballooning

Picture six

My favourite balloon stunt . I got permission during the First Merseyside Balloon Festival to tether a balloon on the back of the ferry to create the headline 'Fairy across the Mersey.'
