POLICE are urging Newport area residents to be vigilant following a series of shed break-ins.

The worst hit area is Marshfield, where eight sheds have been broken into during the past week. Valuables stolen includes bikes, tools and garden equipment.

"With the weather getting warmer, we do unfortunately see more reports of thefts from sheds and garages," said PC Paula Spence.

"We're asking all residents to check on the security they have in place and also, importantly, to call us if they see anything at all suspicious.

"The local community are the experts regarding what is unusual in their area. We really do need their help in calling us if they see any vehicles or people that look out of place, or if anyone is acting suspciously.

"Please don't wait to ring in. We are asking you to call straightaway."

To report a crime call 101, or if you think a crime is taking place, call 999.
