A NEWPORT military enthusiast is auctioning off two items to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Andrew Bowen, 52, is donating two tickets for the Battle of Waterloo re-enactment in June and a framed print of 'The Meeting of Wellington and Blucher after the Battle of Waterloo'.

He paid £190 for the two tickets to celebrate his nephew Lewis’ 14th birthday. However, due to a clash with an exam on those dates, Mr Bowen will be unable to attend.

The re-enactment in Waterloo will take place on June 19 and 20. It will commemorate the 200th anniversary of the battle and will feature 5,000 soldiers, 300 horses, and 100 canons.

There will not be another re-enactment on the Waterloo site until 2025.

Mr Bowen’s second item, the glass-framed print replica of Daniel Maclise's painting in 1861, is approximately 48in by 26in in size. He paid £45 for the print in the St David’s Hospice charity shop in Chepstow in 2007.

Mr Bowen said: “I’m charitable and like to give something back to community. I’m much more interested in people’s happiness than money

“It seems fitting to choose Help For Heroes, as they’re connected to the military and they do a great deal of good for the country.

“It’s a very courageous charity.”

Help for Heroes was launched on October 1, 2007 to help provide better facilities for British servicemen and women who have been wounded or injured in the line of duty.
