A GREAT-grandmother born and bred in Newport celebrated her 104th birthday with a tea party today.
Queenie Prowse lived in London Road for most of her life with her husband William, a builder by trade, who died 25 years ago.
The couple had been married for 54 years and had two children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Her daughter Janice Price, 76, said: “She was very independent, she had a granny flat at the side of my brother’s house for 18 years.”
Mrs Prowse, who held part time jobs at a hospital for servicemen in Chepstow and at Newport Laundry, moved to Wellwood House six years ago.
Her daughter added: “She was quite active in her prime, she would always go out and go up town.
“She had a real good life, she’s a very fit lady. She’s very well looked after in Wellwood House.”
“She’s unique,” Mrs Price added. “You won’t find another one of her in Newport.”
