A GWENT community is celebrating after the local radio station was awarded a five-year licence from Ofcom.

After four temporary licences and three years of dedication, commitment and working together as a team, Brynmawr's BRFM will now be able to broadcast full time.

A special meeting was called Tuesday night for volunteers and presenters at the station.

Chairman of BRFM, Robert Ball, read out a letter from Ofcom revealing the good news to a round of applause and screams from the team.

Mr Ball said: "BRFM would like to thank everyone for their support and encouragement and promise to continue to offer a local information service as well as music for the whole community - and to get onto the airwaves of Blaenau Gwent as quickly as possible."

BRFM presenter Simon Hardman was on air via the internet on Tuesday night where he announced the news during his rock 'n' roll show.

Listeners can log on to BRFM for more information about the station, the frequency and at what times it is on the airwaves.
