LOCALS gathered at Swffryd Social Club yesterday afternoon where they discussed their concerns and their "disgust" at the local authority.

Michael Evans, who has lived in Swffryd for more than fifty years, cannot believe another person has died at the same spot.

"Blaenau Gwent council should be ashamed. I am absolutely disgusted. The flimsy railings they put up after those lads died were never going to stop anything, let alone a Land Rover.

"The local authority surely should have conducted some kind of safety investigation to see if those railings were good enough.

"It has been proved they were not.

"It's about time the council sat up and took notice of what the residents have to say.

"A few years ago the residents had the option of having the quarry filled in, but they didn't want to.

"They were worried about the lorries trundling up and down the road. Maybe if that had happened we wouldn't be talking about this crash today."

Chris Mahoney said: "After the last crash, barriers should have been put up by the council.
