SEVEN couples enjoyed a Valentine's Day dinner at Newport's historic Mansion House last night.
Hosting the date were the city's mayor and mayoress, Miqdad and Lindsay Al-Nuaimi, and they were joined by the six lucky couples who won a competition run in the Argus.
All were selected for the dinner after Newport's first citizen invited readers to nominate special couples.
Joining Councillor and Mrs Al-Nuaimi last night were Fred and Ellen Atwell, of St Julians; Faith and Lawrence Cooper, of Beechwood; Elspeth and Wilfred Bevan, of Caerleon; Jacqui and Mike Handley, of Rogerstone; Caroline and Stuart Johnson, of Llanwern; and Steven and Melanie Campbell, of Rogerstone.
Nominees also sent in a donation for the Mayoral Appeal, which this year will benefit St Woolos Cathedral and Growing Space.
The Mansion House is the official home of Newport's mayor and mayoress during their year of office. As well as hosting visiting dignitaries, it is also used for fundraising events for good causes in the city.
