LINDSAY and Nigel Hinch tied the knot on the most romantic day of the year after the bridegroom booked the wedding "on the spur of the moment".

The couple met on Bonfire Night 16 years ago and have two children, seven-year-old Ethan and Samuel, aged four.

Nigel, of Ebbw Vale, explained why he booked the wedding which took place yesterday.

"I was up in Abergavenny for something else, and I walked past the registry office and thought I'd have a look at what dates they had available," he said.

"Valentine's Day was one of them, so I picked that because it was romantic and a bit special."

The bride-to-be was a surprised but very pleased.

"We didn't marry for so long because we wondered if there was any point," said the new Mrs Hinch.

"We went to a lot of weddings over the years but also saw a lot of people getting divorced. But now we've been together so many years, it's nice to make it official."

He added that he was unwell with heart and kidney problems and Lindsay nursed him through it and was very good to him.

"It showed us we were meant to be together," said Nigel.

The couple's sons were page boys while nieces Lowri Bevan, 13, Kimberlery Bennett, 10, three-year-old Amelia Adlam and two-yera-old Evie Agnew, were bridesmaids.

They enjoyed a reception at Ty Croeso in Crickhowell but were planning a party for Saturday for all the family as not everyone could make it to the wedding.
