THE distraught friends of a woman killed at Swffryd quarry are blaming the local authority for her death.

Hayley and Paul Brown, have been friends with Liz Tranter and her partner for years and say it is Blaenau Gwent council "who have blood on their hands" for not erecting safety barriers along the road.

"After the last time you would have thought that safety on that stretch would be the council's priority," said Mr Brown, 30.

"But it doesn't seem to be the case.' "The council have blood on their hands for what has happened," added Mrs Brown, 27.

"I hope that they can't sleep at night knowing that they did not do enough to stop another accident happening. Everyone knew that that fence was not going to stop a push bike never mind a car.

"They are more like school railings than a fence."

The couple, who live on Rectory Road, are devastated by Ms Tranter's death.

"We spent the day yesterday in bits," said the mum of two.

"But mostly I am just angry, angry that this has happened to Liz and angry for her children.

"How are they going to break the news to them? They have to live in this area, grow up around here and everyday they are going to be faced with having to go past the scene.

"All Liz wanted was to move into her dream house, sit around the table and have a meal with her family. She is not even going to be able to spend one night there."

"We were all going to go up there this week," added Mr Brown.

"They have just had it all plastered and we were going to help them paint. That family are never going to be able to forget Valentine's Day or ever celebrate it again."
