RICH Hall is not alone in building his comic reputation on being a terrible grouch.

The funnyman shares a miserable streak with other comedians, such as Arthur Smith and Jack Dee.

But the American's flair for timing and razor-sharp political commentary makes him a cut above the rest.

The man behind the redneck character Otis Lee Crenshaw has made numerous live and television appearances to great acclaim in the UK and around the world.

Although he has appeared on American talk shows such as the Late Show with David Letterman, the majority of Hall's success has come in the UK.

Here, he won the coveted Perrier Award in 2000, and went on to host two BBC TV shows - Rich Hall's Fishing Show in 2003, and Rich Hall's Cattle Drive in 2006.

He will be supported by Craig Campbell, who recently appeared at the Riverfront's Comedy Shed.

Rich Hall is appearing at the Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre, Newport on Tuesday, February 20 at 8pm. Tickets are £10-£14 with concessions available. Students can buy tickets for Rich Hall, Rhod Gilbert and Sarah Kendall and you will get one show completely free, in a special three for two offer.
