More than 250 guests helped raise £15,000 for charity when they attended a ball organised by the High Sheriff of Gwent.

Mrs Audrey Hull, accompanied by her husband Dr Desmond Hull, hosted the Celtic Manor event held in aid of Gwent Shrievalty Police Trust.

Mrs Hull, who is the first High Sheriff to hold a charity ball, was joined by mayors from the five unitary authorities in Gwent, including Newport's Mayor Miqdad Al Nwanua-Imi and his wife Lindsay.

Guests were treated to an evening of entertainment that included music students at Bassaleg Comprehensive, who performed during the drinks reception. The musicians make up the senior string ensemble at the school.

A raffle and auction, conducted by Mrs Hull's son Dr James Hull, was a huge success raising thousands.

Mrs Hull, whose year of office ends in April, said she was overwhelmed by the support shown and absolutely thrilled to raise £15,000 for charity.

"I am extremely grateful for all the support I have received and to those who attended the ball," she said.
