The Rotary Club Of Abergavenny held its annual Youth Speaks competition at King Henry VIII school.
This competition offers participants: l Experience in speaking on a public platform l Incentive to formulate ideas on specific subjects l Discipline in dealing with a topic in a limited time l Opportunities to learn from others high standards of expression, presentation and appearance.
l Experience in accepting impartial assessment and constructive criticism.
Three junior teams aged 11 to 13 years and seven senior team aged between 14 and 17 years participated and again the standards were excellent making the adjudicators decisions very difficult.
The winners of the junior competition were Charlotte Le Moignan, Mercedes White and Alys Evans with "This house believes that 0 size models should not be allowed on the catwalk".
Senior winners with "This house believes that pride is worse than prejudice" were Scarlett Brown, Louise Brown and Sophie Forbes-Nash.
Speaking on behalf of the Rotary Club, Anthony Davies,Chairman of Youth Activities thanked the adjudicators, Eryl Sheers, Chris Breakwell, president of Abergavenny Rotary Club; Nick Ramsey and David Yendoll. Also a special thank you to the headmaster and staff at King Henry VIII School who helped with the competition.
