HIGH visibility jackets and T-shirts are being used as the latest tools in the fight against alcohol-fuelled crime by Gwent Police.
It is hoped the bright clothing to be worn by licensed door staff will deter drunken violence throughout Gwent.
Police Constable Jim Aitken, Gwent Police's chief licensing officer, said: "High visibility gives the perception of security - similar to stewards at a football match.
"Together with patrolling police officers wearing high visibility jackets, this will help reduce the fear of crime as both inside and outside premises, there will be instant recognition of a security presence."
He said: "In a busy and vibrant night time economy the police need all the assistance possible to deter and prevent crime.
This simple, yet relatively inexpensive initiative can make an instant impact."
The clothing were given out to representatives from Gwent pubs and clubs at a meeting in Cwmbran yesterday (THURS). The costs vary - jackets usually cost less than £20 each and T-shirts around £10.
