THE annual open-air Passion Play will return to the streets of Brynmawr on Good Friday.

The play, which attracts regular churchgoers and those keen to explore the real message of Easter, will be performed by around 20 volunteers of the

Valleys Family Church.

Now in its tenth year in the town, Pastor Stuart Wheatman will reprise the role of Jesus.

For the first time it will start from the top end of Beaufort Street at the pedestrian entrance to the top car park (opposite The Hospice of the Valleys shop) and just to the right of Davies Wallpapers where there will be a scene depicting the Last Supper.

It will then proceed along Beaufort Street to the Market Square, Brynmawr and will cross the road opposite The Talisman Pub. From there is will pass Roberts Florists and The Buffs before crossing the road at the Pelican Crossing near Blaen-y-cwm Primary School.

Scenes will take place in the Lakeside Picnic area by Asda and culminate in the crucifixtion scene on the hill by the black path, over the road from the Welfare Park entrance.

"It’s an excellent opportunity for members of the public to come along to see a free open-air production where the events of the Passion of Christ will be portrayed,” said Pastor Stuart Wheatman.

He said:”People can understand some of what Jesus suffered for each one of us.”

The play begins at 2pm on April 3.
