POLICE officers in Newport are asking for all residents to be vigilant following 15 reports of damage to or thefts from vehicles in the last week.

Areas affected include Park Avenue, Park Crescent, Lyndhurst Avenue, Cardiff Road, Stelvio Park Drive, Monnow Walk, Park Drive, Sunnybank, Gaer Road, Ridgeway Grove, Forge Lane, Alice Street and Brynglas Road.

Items such as power tools, satnavs and wallets have been stolen and five incidents resulted in damage caused to the vehicles.

Detective Inspector Matt Sedgebeer said: “We would always urge drivers to lock and double check vehicles before leaving them. Never leave any valuables on display. Have a look around your vehicle before you leave it to check nothing is on show and hide anything you can’t take with you in the boot.

“Try to park your car on a driveway or in a well-lit area. Also try to be aware of anyone suspicious in your local community - if you see anyone who you think may be committing a crime, please contact us immediately.”

If you want to report a crime, please call 101 or dial 999 in an emergency or if you think a crime is taking place. To report any information anonymously, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
