A BRYNMAWR baby who was delivered prematurely by his father last year has changed the lives of his doting parents.

Aiden Baker, now eight months, was born five weeks early on September 16, 2014. His father, Robert Baker, 44, followed the instructions of the emergency services on his phone’s loudspeaker when his partner, Jadeelee Davies, 22, went into labour at her home at Ffynnon Court in Brynmawr.

Ms Davies, who suffers from chronic back pain, had been experiencing a burning sensation at around 5.30pm that evening and asked her partner to buy pregnancy friendly painkillers on his way home from work.

However, by 6.30pm, Ms Davies was short of breath and the returning Mr Baker had to phone an ambulance.

The couple believed they had time, as Ms Davies’ waters had not yet broken, but just 15 minutes later baby Aiden emerged into his father’s arms.

Eight months on, bubbly Aiden is constantly smiling and wriggling around – loving nothing more than playing with his rattle.

His mother, Ms Davies, said: “He’s so lovable and just laughs and laughs. He’s always taking in things and isn’t a shy baby.

“It’s been a really good learning curve for us and even though he’s now sleeping through the night, we’re still waking up for him.

“He’s changed our lives completely and we’ve become a real family.”

Aside from some mild eczema, Aiden’s been perfectly healthy since his dramatic entrance last year and has already been attending child development classes.

Since February, the family have been living together in Mr Baker’s home in Blaina in Blaenau Gwent, where he acts as a full-time carer for Ms Davies and Aiden.

Mr Baker said: “I get to spend all day with Aiden and see him developing. It’s just brilliant and he’s settled so well here.

“He loves anything musical and he would happily play with a packet of wet wipes all day long because of the noise it makes.

“There was no time to panic the day he was born and, in a way, time has just flown by the same way since.”
