BUDDING volunteers from housing association Newport City Homes (NCH) and contractors Wates took part in their first Give and Gain Day to transform the Bettws Civil Service Club.

Together with United Living, Mitie, Dulux and Bettws First the volunteers helped to spruce up the North Cluster Extended Sixth Form, a training facility for 10-15 young people to study towards a sports BTec qualification.

The sixth form is a thriving hub for youth clubs during the week and is based at the Civil Service Club.

NCH recognised that the building was in need of repairs and welcomed an offer made by one of their contractors, Wates for a kitchen for the facility.

The housing association was also approached by Dulux with the offer of painting the extended sixth from provision.

Wates provided breakfast for volunteers before making a start on transforming the space into a fully working kitchen.

A spokeswoman for NCH said: "The day was very busy with a great atmosphere and the young community volunteers weren’t afraid to get messy and worked really hard alongside staff and contractors to make the day a success. NCH would like to say thank you to all involved."

Give and Gain day is a celebration of the power and potential of employee volunteering.
