A CHEPSTOW girl celebrated her eighth birthday by having her first ever haircut to raise money for the Princess Trust.

Aimee-Jo McNeil, eight, from Tutshill, had seven inches cut off her hair to raise money for the children’s charity, which makes wigs for children who suffer hair loss due to cancer treatment.

So far, Aimee-Jo has raised £650, which is £300 above her original target, and she could yet raise enough to buy wigs for two cancer patients.

Speaking after having her Taylor Swift-style haircut at the Live and Let Live Inn, Aimee-Jo said: “I wanted to give another girl a gift on my birthday. I felt happy to do it and feel really proud.

“I’ve not got an Ariana Grande hairstyle anymore and I love my new hair.”

Following her haircut, Aimee-Jo had a birthday party at her home and went out for dinner with her family Aimee-Jo’s mother, Jo McNeil, 42, added: “She was really good – better than me in fact. She just kept saying how excited she was to give another girl her hair.

“I’m just so proud. Every time she had a wobble, she said, ‘but my hair will grow back’. She was just so excited to make other girls feel pretty.

“She’s an amazing little girl and is so selfless and kind.”

Aimee-Jo is already looking ahead to her next charity event and hopes to take part in next year's Race for Life for Cancer Research UK.
