AN EBBW Vale man has avoided prison for attacking his ex-partner’s father.

Kyle Bloodworth, 22, of Firth Road, Ebbw Vale, was charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm (ABH) to the grandfather to his son Alan Lawrence.

Cardiff Crown Court heard from prosecutor James Wilson how on March 15, 2015, Mr Lawrence was babysitting the defendant’s and his daughter’s son when in the early hours there was a knock at the door.

He answered to find the defendant and the defendant’s younger brother.

Mr Lawrence attempted to prevent them from entering the property but the pair pushed past Mr Lawrence and started to attack him, punching his face and body in an attack lasting around three minutes.

The victim’s daughter called the police and the defendant and his brother ran off.

Mr Lawrence was taken to hospital and treated for injuries including bruising to his eye.

The defendant was arrested in March 16 and pleaded guilty on May 29.

The court heard how Bloodworth had previous convictions including battery in August 2010.

Heath Edwards, defending, said Bloodworth was “deeply ashamed”.

“The defendant deeply regrets overreacting and hurting Mr Lawrence in the way that he did, “ Mr Edwards said.

“He is a 22-year-old man, who shows some promise and has achieved qualifications off his own back.”

Recorder Nigel Thomas sentenced the defendant to six months imprisonment suspended for 18 months.

“We consider this to be an exceptionally serious offence,” he said. “You have very great problems.

“I trust there are associated with being immature and young.

“It seems to me that you are in a position improve your life and turn things around.

“This is the last chance you have left.”

He ordered him to attend anger management sessions and imposed a restraining order preventing Bloodworth from contacting Mr Lawrence for two years.

Bloodworth was also ordered to pay £350 compensation and a £80 victim surcharge.
