A BAGPIPE-PLAYING Gwent man has visited every coloured square on the Newport Monopoly board in one day.
Matthew Bartlett, who played his bagpipe whilst wearing a kilt at every location from the iconic board, started the challenge at 8.30am and finished on Friday evening.
He managed to visit all 22 spots with the help of his family driving as a support vehicle.
He visited iconic sites including the Transporter Bridge, Celtic Manor Resort, Tredegar House and Park, Friars Walk, Rodney Parade and Newport Castle.
Shortly after visiting the Royal Gwent Hospital he popped into the South Wales Argus offices before heading off to West Usk Lighthouse.
During his visit to Argus Towers he said: “It’s about promoting Newport using all the iconic stops on the Monopoly board game.
“It’s gone really well and I’ve really enjoyed it.
“When we went over the Newport Transporter Bridge I played Rod Stewart’s ‘Sailing’ He added that there were several highlights during his whistle-stop tour of Newport.
“When I was at the Caerleon Roman amphitheatre there were lots of Japanese tourists and they all wanted photos taken with me,” he said.
“A few were fascinated by the bagpipes too and wanted to have a go.”
It’s not the first time that he’s completed a whistle-stop tour of Gwent.
Mr Bartlett, aged 45, from Ringwood Avenue, said: “Last year we did 10 castles across Gwent and really enjoyed it.”
Mr Bartlett, who works as a Welsh wedding bagpiper, took pictures from every stop on his tour of the Newport Monopoly board.
