YOUNG Regan Poole must be in dreamland this morning.

The 17-year-old Newport County AFC defender yesterday sealed a transfer to Premier League giants Manchester United.

It is a remarkable turnaround for Poole.

As a 15-year-old he released by Cardiff City, who did not deem him good enough to be awarded a scholar contract.

County approached him, he played a few games for the club’s Under-16s team and was then awarded a two-year scholar contract.

But Poole barely played for the youth team as former manager Justin Edinburgh spotted his potential and he became the club’s youngest-ever first team player last season.

Since then he has played for the Wales Under-17 team and been on trial at both Manchester United and Liverpool.

Now the Old Trafford club have moved to sign the teenager.

Though the clubs have not revealed the transfer fee, it is believed to be £100,000 up front with the potential to increase to £400,000.

That is a great deal for a youngster who had yet to sign a professional contract, and a great deal for a club in dire need of cash.

We wish Regan the best of luck for his future career.
